Vertical Test Fires

Ensures the system’s optimal performance and reliability in vertical orientation

Vertical Test Fire #1

May 14th, 2022

On May 14, 2022, we attempted our first vertical test fire (VTF). A more involved process than our static test fires, this test fire tested our engine in launch configuration. Unfortunately, several issues arose during this test, ultimately resulting in no ignition. However, this proved to be a great learning experience for us. Experience was gained in testing the rocket in this configuration, and important lessons were learned for next time.

Vertical Test Fire #2

January 21st, 2023

On Jan 21, 2023, we again attempted our vertical test fire. Armed with new knowledge and improved designs and procedures, we were ready. Despite previous Cold Flow tests not performing as expected, confidence was still high. And, after months of dedicated work, we got incredible results. Generating over 800 pounds of thrust and burning for 7 seconds, this test greatly exceeded expectations. Therefore, putting us in prime position to launch later this school year.
